Verilink Adds Promptus Communications as Master Distributor For Asia Pacific
Promptus Signs Agreement to Market and Distribute Verilink's Advanced Voice over IP (VoIP) and Voice over DSL (VoDSL) Products In Asia Pacific
Verilink Corporation (Nasdaq: VRLK), a leading provider of broadband access solutions, today announced the execution of a Master Distributor agreement with Promptus Communications based in Sydney Australia, a leading value-added distributor specializing in IP telephony and converged access solutions in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, with particular focus in Australia and New Zealand.
Under the agreement, Promptus will market and distribute Verilink's full line of Integrated Access Devices (IADs) and professional services to service providers, value-added resellers and system integrators in the APAC region. Products covered under the contract include Verilink's award-winning 8000 Series VoIP/VoATM/VoDSL IAD, the WANsuite VoDSL IAD, and complete line of TDM products including CSU/DSUs, Multiplexers and DACS. Promptus, through its annual purchase commitment for Verilink products, has earned master distributor-level volume pricing. Verilink and Promptus will jointly engage in market development and demand creation in the APAC territory, which will be serviced and supported regionally by Promptus.

The Asia Pacific region has been identified as a high growth and emerging market for broadband and converged access services. In a recently published report by the Dell'Oro Group, a market research analyst firm based in Redwood City, CA., Dell'Oro Group estimated that DSL subscriber lines will grow by more than double by 2008. According to the firm's report, the Asia Pacific region was estimated to have 45 Million DSL lines in service in 2004, going to over 93 Million subscriber lines in service by 2008, growing over 105% in the next 3-year period.
Verilink's 8000 Series IADs provide all of the advanced features and functions that carriers need to deliver toll-quality voice and business-class data services. Operating as intelligent customer-located equipment, the 8000 Series supports Session Initiated Protocol (SIP) and Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) and provides a built-in migration path from traditional telephony, Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), to Internet Protocol (IP).
This migration path allows carriers and enterprises to maximize their existing network investments, including POTS and BRI equipment, while having an on-ramp to more cost-efficient, scalable packet networks.
The 8000 Series is a flexible product set based on a true plug-and-play architecture, plugging directly into existing analog phones, PBX and Key Systems, and supporting a wide range of Wide Area Network (WAN) interfaces, including T1, E1, ADSL, SDSL, and SHDSL. The remote management functionality allows services to be configured, provisioned and managed without truck rolls, saving up to five times the operational cost of traditional operations.
